Flatey Island from Húsavík

On our way to Flatey Island, experience the beautiful surroundings of Skjálfandi Bay on board our RIB speedboats. Flatey Island is a natural haven for birdlife and is extremely rich and diverse. It therefore attracts many people each year. The island offers more than 30 different species of birds during the breeding season.

We offer guided excursions through Flatey’s beautiful nature. The island is home to the arctic tern and puffins, which you may watch up close. This is a unique opportunity to commune with nature. From Flatey we head back to Húsavík and sail by the awesome mountains of Vík. If Mother Nature is feeling generous, we may even be able to do some whale watching on our way back. Special arrangements are available upon request.

Flatey is an island which is located on the north-western part of Skjálfandi Bay, 14,7 nautical miles from Húsavík. The name means “flat island” and the highest peak rises only about 22 m above sea level. With the length of 2,5 km and 1,7 km wide, Flatey is the fifth largest island around Icelandic waters. Whales in the Midnight Sun Reykjavik

A truly unique whale watching experience in the magical summer sun and everlasting daylight.

Available: 15 June – 31 July at 20:30 and 1 August – 31 August at 19:00

Duration: 2,5 – 3,5 h

Stop by our ticket office in the Old Harbour in downtown Reykjavik where you will exchange your pre-paid voucher for admission tickets. As whales never fully sleep, we can expect to see the same whales as on our day tours, that is, the Eyjafjord Humpbacks, the occasional Minke whales, porpoises and even dolphins.

The mystical midnight sun and the nature of the fjord provide a unique nature and wildlife experience. To make the tour even more enjoyable and memorable, we often shut down the boat engines to enjoy the soothing sound of the water, the whales and the birds. The Midnight Sun tour is ideal as a relaxing end of a busy day or as a beginning of a fun night in town. If you’re in the mood for some light snacks or drinks, have a look at our onboard bar menu – we recommend the Whale Punch (rum infused hot chocolate)!
Although our success rate is high, the cetacean abundance is unpredictable and varies with the food availability of our shores. In case no whales or dolphins make an appearance on the tour, we will offer you a complimentary ticket to try again within 2 years!

Please be aware that the weather can change rapidly in Iceland and therefore the captain could decide to alter or cancel the tour on short notice for safety reasons. In this case we will contact you as soon as possible with the contact information you provide in the booking process.

  • Warm clothing
